AMITOLA CARE FARM
Calling us Home
The idea of spreading a little love, compassion, and hope to our community all began with one big dream and six little donkeys.
Each one of us is worthy of love in all its forms and expressions.
Trauma, particularly abuse can make the sun disappear and the skies grow dark.
As the founder of Amitola, I dreamed of a sanctuary for animals and survivors of abuse, addiction, grief, and loss. Three years later we have created a safe haven, in a nurturing, therapeutic setting on eight beautiful wooded acres. We offer connection, and creativity through transformational programs and the human/animal connection. Amitola Care Farm is a rainbow in the clouds that guides survivors home to themselves to not only heal but thrive. "
“I have experienced feelings of worthlessness after abuse. I have also experienced a healing connection with animals when I have felt at my lowest. I believe it’s not okay just to exist. All animals possess breathtaking intelligence and wisdom. The beautiful animals at Amitola offer their love and presence and it is through this connection we experience oneness with the herd, oneness with nature, oneness with ourselves and oneness with the creator of All.
Join us on this journey. Together, we can do great things."

OUR MISSION
Amitola Care Farm enhances the quality of life and self-worth for women impacted by trauma with the assistance of animals and transformational programs in nature.
WHY WE DO
With the ever-increasing numbers of women and youth who struggle with low self-worth, lack of confidence, anxiety, depression, poor diet, and illness, there is an urgent need to reconnect them to the beauty within themselves, to animals, nature, and how they see the world around them.
Amitola Care Farm offers transformative programs and animal-assisted learning programs that provide compassion, connection, reassurance, and hugs to women and children who may struggle with grief, loss, anxiety, history of trauma, communication problems, anger, and low self-esteem.
Research has shown that spending time with animals has enormous therapeutic benefits, boosting confidence, releasing oxytocin, providing happy hormones, and helping to improve emotional and social skills. The transformation in people is often instantaneous. Miniature donkeys in particular are naturally calm animals, they have a slow and steady presence which gives a feeling of security and comfort to those feeling vulnerable or suffering from emotional difficulties.
Touching, grooming, and cuddling animals is a great social facilitator, allowing people to relax and feel a sense of nurturing and connection. They bring compassion and reassurance to those to need it most, gentle, tender, and understanding, gifting confidence and trust in a way that people often can’t because people are so often damaged by people. Animals offer so many gifts, the greatest gift of all being unconditional love.
“In an age where we are more connected than ever through social media, we are more disconnected than ever; depression being the no 1 dis-ease globally. It is essential to recognize that a person’s health and well-being improves by prescribing connection with other living things, especially animals that offer so many gifts, the greatest gift of all being unconditional love."

Even when challenges arrive, I feel a sense of calm rather than panic, and visualize a positive outcome. No matter what your issues, situations, beliefs, concerns or fears, the workshops are run with love and passion and a energy which is infectious and inspirational.

A huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I felt it's time for me to come out of my shell and not allow others to dominate my life. I am healing, I now have a peace about myself and I'm starting to think in a calm and positive way. This is a big step forwards for me.
